Preliminary remark
Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union sets out the accessibility requirements for websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies and lays down the rules under which Member States must ensure that these requirements are met. These legal obligations include a detailed, comprehensive and clear accessibility statement.
Although we are not a public body and, as a company, do not fall within the scope of the aforementioned EU directive, we regard the principles formulated therein as a minimum guiding principle that we implement as a matter of course. We are therefore also happy to voluntarily submit the mandatory declaration of accessibility as an additional measure.
For us, accessibility is one of the cornerstones of our work. We ensure that we achieve accessible results right from the design stage and throughout the entire process of creating our services. Of course, this also means that our own websites must fulfil this requirement. We use this as a benchmark:
- the global standards of the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)
- the European standard for minimum accessibility requirements for information and communication technologies (EN 301 549)
- the national regulations of BITV 2.0 (Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance = Ordinance on the Creation of Barrier-free Information Technology in accordance with the Disability Equality Act / BGG)
- the Berlin standards for digital accessibility formulated by the Senate Department for the Interior, Digitisation and Sport at state level.
In order to meet these strict criteria, we repeatedly carried out development-related self-tests with various screen readers before relaunching our website in November 2021. In order to incorporate additional improvements, we ran through a usability test for accessibility - our so-called usability test - and then refined the structure of the blog once again.
Our blog sometimes includes embedded videos. These are provided with subtitles in both German and English, which were created semi-automatically.
Our audit is based on a self-assessment conducted on 3 August 2021. The review revealed that the pages and subpages listed are accessible. They are therefore fully compliant with the listed German and international accessibility regulations.
